Macau Population Now 513,427 People

The resident population of Macau at the end of 2006 was calculated to be 513,427 people, or 5.8 percent (29,150 people) more than at the end of 2005, the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau said.

According to the published statistics, 50.8 percent of residents were female, 14.7 percent were up to 14 years of age, 78.3 percent were aged between 15 and 64 and 7 percent were over 65.

In 2006 a total of 2,800 immigrants arrived in Macau from the Chinese mainland of which 72.9 percent were female and 65.6 percent were from Guangdong province, which borders Macau and Hong Kong.

At the end of 2006, 64,673 non-resident workers were registered in the region, or 25,262 more than at the end of 2005.
