The Las Vegas Sun send their two reporters Jeff Simpson and Richard N. Velotta to Macau to attend the opening of Wynn Macau but also to get a feeling for the market in Macau.

They wrote four excellent articles and are talking mainly about the US casino operator’s and their Casino’s in Macau. Even though they briefly mention the sub concession, they seem to forget that PBL Melco are building Crown Macau as well as developing ‘The City of Dreams’, not forgetting the Mocha Clubs that are running in Macau!

Macau fast becoming Vegas Strip Far East

Steve Wynn elevated Las Vegas’ presence in China on Tuesday, opening the first megaresort in this one-time Portuguese colony and taking his competition with fellow mogul Sheldon Adelson to a new level – the burgeoning Asian marketplace.

China’s rush to gamble has Macau cashing in

As I maneuver down the ferry gangway, dozens of fellow passengers from Hong Kong run by, racing to get into this city.

I have heard stories about how Chinese gamble so intensely in Macau – but was told that I wouldn’t believe it until I saw it firsthand.

Destination Macau

When Macau officials decided to end the casino monopoly of Chinese gambling mogul Stanley Ho, they looked to Las Vegas.

They looked not just for Nevada operators to invest in the Chinese enclave and to build competing casinos, but for the model of a vibrant resort city that offers more than gambling.

Two-and-a-half years after the first Las Vegas-owned casino opened in Macau, the government seems well on its way to achieving its goals.

Jeff Simpson reflects on Macau

I wanted to share a few thoughts from my visit to Macau.

Last year the Sun sent our tourism reporter Richard N. Velotta to Macau (and Beijing and Singapore) and Richard wrote a top-notch series of stories that helped Sun readers understand the power of the Chinese economy and its tourism impact on Las Vegas, the vibrancy of Macau casinos and the gaming potential of Singapore.

I had long ago asked Richard to prepare to travel again to Macau when the $1.2 billion Wynn Macau opened. Not only did Sun Managing Editor Michael Kelley approve Richard’s second visit to Asia in a year, he asked me to go as well.
