As reported by XinHua – Macao recorded 227,239 package tourist arrivals in July, a year-on-year drop of 6.6 percent, according to official statistics issued in Macao on Wednesday.
The figures from the government-run Statistics and Census Service (SCS) showed that the majority of package visitors came in the month from the Chinese mainland (185,084), Taiwan (13,013) and Hong Kong (8,109).
The SCS statistics also showed that the number of Macao’s hotel rooms reached 11,792 at the end of July, up 11.6 percent over the same month of last year.
Hotel guests accounted for 41.0 percent of the total number of tourists in the first seven months, according to the statistics.
Analysts attribute the low hotel-room occupancy rate mainly to the high room charges.
